So the thing about romantic comedy movies that I’m noticing after reading a pile of historical romance novels is this: Their relationships are singularly implausible. A book has time for people to, you know, get to know each other and be together over a period of weeks and months or whatever; but a romantic comedy (unless it montages, which is its own form of implausible) is lucky if it can get two whole days together. The only reason we find the romance between Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant even vaguely plausible is that Drew Barrymore is hot and Hugh Grant is (I’m not gay, but let’s be honest here) also hot. Of course the two of them would fall for each other! They’re Drew and Hugh! Also, they have rhyming names!

Anyway, as romantic comedies go, this was one.
