Basically, it’s a superhero movie where the superhero is kind of a massive dick and ruins a lot of things and drinks a lot. Sort of. Then it becomes all mythic in a way that doesn’t work with the earlier part of the movie.

Basically, there are three movies they could have made: The Bateman/Smith movie that it starts out as, which I think could be excellent; the Theron/Smith movie that it transitions into, which I think could be a good story but would probably be an awful movie; and the Theron/Bateman movie that more or less gets shunted off to the sidelines here, which I think they actually did make with Uma Thurman.

Upshot is, it’s a confused film that doesn’t know what it wants to be, and ends up just kinda meandering around vaguely.
