So Pixar’s made a lot of overrated fluff, what I might think of as “R.A. Salvatore movies” – that is, ones that are pretty good, compared to other things like them, but objectively mediocre.

However, Brad Bird (who did the pretty good Iron Giant before going to Pixar) made The Incredibles, which was legitimately good, and praise for WALL-E was couched in ways that made it sound interesting, saying that it was slow and nearly silent and visually gorgeous ‘n’ such.

But that was all lies. WALL-E starts off with a cheap “lol americans are fat and lazy and greedy lol” satire and never leaves it for a moment. And even at its best, when it’s the two robots alone on the planet, it’s a bunch of goddamn anthropomorphic robots mugging and looking cute for the camera.

Insipid, witless, and dull. This goes up there with Toy Story in the Most Criminally Overrated list.
