Inglourious Basterds
Okay, so by this point you know what you think of Quentin Tarantino, with his hyper-stylized hyper-violence, with sardonic twists of humour. If you like that, you’ll like this; if not, not.
But one thing I will say that maybe doesn’t get said enough is that Tarantino is really great at getting great performances out of people. Whether it’s has-beens like John Travolta reinvigorating their careers, guys like Samuel L. Jackson launching them, or just Uma Thurman solidifying hers, that’s always been a strength of his. And so it is here, with a ton of great performances.
It’s maybe not Kill Bill, but then, that movie didn’t have a histrionic Hitler, so it evens out in the end. Highly recommended to people who think they might like this movie.
