Flirting with Disaster: This is a mid-‘90s movie with a young Ben Stiller and misc. other people. It’s a… screwball comedy, I guess would be the genre? One of those things where absurd situations happen and people react with deadpan fashion, anyway.

It’s David O. Russell (Three Kings, The Fighter) directing, and a pretty solid cast (Téa Leoni, Mary Tyler Moore, Alan Alda, Lily Tomlin, Patricia Arquette, &c.), and is enjoyable absurdity. Recommended.

The Hangover: This is, as you’d expect, hideously sexist and lightly racist – I mean, it’s a Hollywood frat-boy comedy, that’s just the part that you take for given.

But moving past that, it’s actually pretty funny. Ignore the stupid and unfunny part with the shrewish controlling girlfriend, and it goes up another notch. Zach Galifianakis (name typed from memory, so less than even odds on it being correct) is amusing, other dudes are amusing, and the plot structure – trying to reconstruct what happened on a rather crazy night – is one that works. I gather the sequel sucks, and I’m not surprised, but this is pretty okay.
