Bridesmaids
So everyone is all, “Hey, you know how there’s a certain type of Apatow-esque comedy that everyone loves, but which is never actually funny? Well, this one is like that, but actually funny!”
And they’re sorta correct. There are definitely funny parts in this movie, and it’s a good step up from your standard template of the Apatow-esque comedy. BUT: It’s not really all that good. Whatever themes it might be trying to address are an inch deep, they resort to easy clichés like the gross fat girl, there are the awful/tedious grossout scenes which include characters vomiting on each other’s heads, and the movie’s villainess is about the most obvious cliché of “oh, I’m pretty and rich, but I’m also insecure” out there. And I won’t even mention the central romance, which is there just because the movie thinks it needs one, not because it has any substance to it whatsoever.
Overhyped, overrated, and way too obvious. If you went into it expecting it to suck badly, I can see where you’d’ve been pleasantly surprised, but as it is, yeah, no.
