Look, I loved it a lot, but this is like the movie equivalent of Anathem where I’m like “okay, they made this just for me.” If regular human people like it, I’d be shocked, except that obviously lots of reviewers like it and they are probably not as a class well-versed in their Marvel comics. What I will say is that even if you don’t know your Marvel alien empires, the movie is sharply written and funny.

I wish I wouldn’t have seen any of the trailers, but for once not because they had all the best parts, but because it was weird seeing those scenes disassembled and not like they were in the trailer.

Spoilery thoughts

  1. So, I kind of get making the Kree the villains, but Kree vs. Xandarians doesn’t seem very canonical to me. Not saying it’s never happened, and Ronan is cooler than Super-Skrull or whatever, so I see why they did it, but still.

  2. So the Nova Corps is non-superpowered. But maybe they will be in the future?

  3. CELESTIALS, YES. They even have Knowhere and Cosmo (sort of)! I approve so hard.

  4. Ronan the fucking Accuser, even with the hammer and everything. So goddamn great. Things I would never have thought would exist: that. And he looks straight up like real goddamn Ronan, so awesome.

  5. Infinity gems and Thanos (referred to as the Mad Titan!) and everything.

  6. Still loving the Collector. Still loving that the Collector exists.

Basically, I want to be clear about this: fuck yeah.
