So in the first movie, the extended stuff was all stuff where you’re like, “Oh, that’s interesting, but yes, cut it” with a few exceptions like the Galadriel bits. In the second movie, the extended stuff was all, “Oh dude, you should’ve just bitten the bullet and made a four hour movie, because this is all totally necessary.”

Third movie: Like the first. The Saruman bit should’ve been in the original, but pretty much everything else was either interesting but unnecessary, or in the case of the Mouth of Sauron part, deserving of the scrap heap.

Still a good movie, though. But not short.
