So on the Filmstruck podcast, they were talking about director Alejandro Jodorowsky, and how he believed that narrative was the least important element of films, and his movies were all about the imagery and the score and so forth. And they made it sound really cool and interesting, so I put this onto my list to watch.

yeah that was a mistake

So the thing about this is, it’s basically Un Chien Andalou at feature film length. It’s two friggin’ hours of nonsensical quasi-mystical bullshit that’s intended to be shocking and offensive. A dude shits in a jar. A dude has his balls cut off. Etc.

It’s so very “counterculture” in the worst possible way (John Lennon and Yoko Ono liked it, to put it in context). The best you can say about it is that yeah, it does have striking imagery, and it’s only gross or offensive like 80% of the time, so y’know, there’s that.

Not recommended.
