Excalibur
So, we just watched Excalibur. It’s a terrible, terrible movie, of course (I’d bought it on DVD for really cheap years ago and never bothered to watch it previously). Here’s the thing that confuses me: We’re watching it, and we’re all, “Oh, Monty Python and the Holy Grail is totally parodizing this part.” Because it’s such a freakin’ close parody that there’s no way it’s not directly mocking this particular scene. And yet: IMDB tells me that Holy Grail is 1975 and Excalibur is 1981. Which means, er, not so much with the direct mockery.
I am baffled. Knowing that Holy Grail exists, HOW could they make a serious straight-up movie like this?!?
