So this is a coming-of-age movie about the teenage Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan), full of all the stuff coming-of-age movies are full of — friendships, boyfriends, trying to figure out who you are, and especially her relationship to her parents (and especially especially her mom (played note-perfect by Laurie Metcalf)).

Greta Gerwig wrote and directed it, and it’s sharp and witty without being too-mannered (like Juno, say); it’s also sweet and sad and funny. Strongly recommended; it’s on Amazon Prime or Kanopy.
