Deadpool 2
So I liked Deadpool well enough (considering it’s the kind of thing that I don’t really love), but then I heard that this one started off with a fridging that they didn’t even get properly meta about, and ugh, sigh, wevs. And then I forgot all about that, and this was on HBONOW, and we started it up.
And… okay, the fridging thing is a real problem. It’s a big dumb plot element, and the movie is so cleverly meta about everything else that it’s almost inconceivable that they included that and handled it so straight.
But if you can get past that, it’s actually a fun movie. The humor works, it’s much less sleazy than the first one, Domino is great, Cable is appropriately grimdark ’90s, and it’s just a bunch of solid R-rated hyper-violent snarky superhero fun.
Also, I had never seen Josh Brolin in anything before Infinity War (or more accurately, I probably had, but forgot him as he’s one of those generic-looking forgettable guys), but he plays Cable in this, and it kept throwing me how much he looks and sounds like Thanos, even though he is small and non-purple.
