Everyone says this one is really good, and everyone is right. It’s a historical political drama around the court of Queen Anne, but really it’s about the conflict between two courtiers who are vying to be her, uh, favourite, and the increasing depth of their plans against each other.

It’s gorgeously shot — I feel like Barry Lyndon must have been an explicit visual reference, because it has a lot of that same feel (except also with some fisheye lenses, which drove my wife nuts) — and the dialogue is wonderfully quotably snarky, and just one of those movies that nails the intersection of being extremely entertaining while also having some real style and verve to it.
