The Graduate
So this is one of those movies that’s all famous and “classicy” even though I’ve never seen anyone actually claim that it’s great. And they shouldn’t, because it’s not. It starts off as one of those edgy indies, turns into a romantic comedy, and then just goes batshit crazy at the end. Throughout, none of the characters make any sense at all, and they all behave in inexplicable ways.
Also, Dustin Hoffman is clearly practicing for his eventual role as Rainman, acting with flat tones and lack of affect. He bothers me, a lot.
Overall verdict: Not really worth watching, except that everyone always refers to lines from it (“Plastics!”), and now you’ll know them firsthand instead of just through massive media repetition.
