2 Fast 2 Furious
Title notwithstanding, I rate this movie at 0.5 Fast and like 0.6 Furious, tops. So the basic premise here is, the dude who was a cop in LA in the first movie goes down to Miami, and then recruits his childhood bro to help him do an undercover sting operation for the local customs police. Does this involve driving cars very fast? Bro, you know it does.
The plot makes absolutely no sense at all, like literally none. The whole deal is that they need to catch this criminal in a very specific situation, bro, despite the fact that at any of 18,000 prior points, they have all the evidence they need to convict him, and there’s absolutely no reason to let their Rube Goldberg-esque plan play out. But they let it play out, and in a shocking twist the criminal had a twist of his own, bro. Will they be able to use their driving skills to thwart his plan? Bro, it’s not even a spoiler to say that they will, because obviously they will.
I don’t really know what the virtues of this movie are supposed to be. It’s kinda stylish, I guess, but the plot is absurd, the characters don’t really click, and it doesn’t even have that tuner car culture feel of the first movie. It feels like a slick, soulless, cash-in sequel, and if the franchise had died here, I would not have been surprised, bro.
ALSO EVERYONE SAYS BRO ALL THE TIME, and I kept envisioning a crossover between the tracksuit mafia and this movie.
Anyway, the franchise didn’t die here, so hopefully it gets better.
