Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
So this is one of those old-school anime movies from the ’80s, but it’s impressive how much it doesn’t feel like it. Okay, yes, it’s as confusing and weird as you’d expect from anime in that era, but it’s still good. Gorgeous animation and a theme/plot very similar to Princess Mononoke means that it’s obviously Miyazaki.
However: I was disturbed by the part where Nausicaä wears a short skirt that flaps about in the wind, and no apparent pants. Beth insists that she was wearing flesh-colored pants, and I wish I could trust the scary Japanese id enough to believe her.
