So today was my one day a year when I felt like watching something slightly challenging, and I figured I’d best not waste it, and plucked The Hours out from under the pile of dust that only metaphorically existed, thanks to the maids.

Verdict: Okay, I really liked it. I can see why people wouldn’t, but I did. What can I say? I’m a sucker for character-focused melodramas where decades of repressed emotion and history all suddenly bursts to the surface (see also: Magnolia), I guess.

Also: At the time it came out, all the reviews panned the “intrusive” Philip Glass soundtrack, but they’re on crack, because this is one of those movies (again, see also: Magnolia) where the soundtrack is really integral to the whole thing, and it wouldn’t work at all with something else.
