The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
I’ve started and deleted like three attempts to sum up this movie, and I’m just not even going to. Here’s what you need to know: Nicolas Cage plays himself, in a performance that is entirely aware of his reputation for being, y’know, Nicolas Cage. Pedro Pascal plays a completely charming rich guy who is a huge Nic Cage fan, and this is a movie about their newfound relationship. And, y’know, a few meta elements.
Back when I saw the trailer for this, I thought it looked great, and then after it was released it seemed to have fallen off everyone’s radar, so I figured it must not have been that good, but: It is that good! If the premise sounds like it’s up your alley, I feel like you’re almost certainly going to like the movie.
It’s sweet, it’s funny, it’s action-packed. There are a lot of movies I love where okay, I get it, not a lot of people are going to like this movie. But a lot of people should like this movie.
