So the premise of this movie is that some parents are worried their college-bound son is too introverted and they’re like “he needs to get laid,” so they put out an ad, which Jennifer Lawrence — a down-on-her-luck thirtysomething — answers.

This could obviously be really creepy, but it’s not. The kid — well, guy, I guess, he’s 19 — is a socially clueless, awkward, anxiety-ridden introvert in the stereotypical zoomer mold; but for all that, does feel like a real person with some depth. Similarly, Lawrence’s character is an earthy, cynical quasi-burnout, but isn’t just that.

This isn’t a great movie, but it’s funny and charming, and overall a lot better than it could have been. It’s kinda that prototypical “missing middle” type of movie — neither a giant $1B superhero blockbuster nor a little $10M arthouse film.
