First things first: WHERE WAS METALLICA? You cannot make a movie called Unforgiven and not have Metallica playing in it. It just doesn’t work.

Otherwise: Enh. Okay enough movie, I guess, but it’s basically Clint Eastwood’s blowjob to his own awesomeness. Basically, the entire thrust of the first 1:55 of the movie is “All those bad-ass legends of the Old West weren’t nearly as bad-ass in reality as they were in the legend, and they were mostly just lucky and stupid and whatever else.” The last 10 minutes appends to that: “… except for Clint, who’s TOTALLY FUCKING BADASS.”

I think there was supposed to be some other point — I remember reading things about how it was all anti-violence or whatever — but that’s nonsense. The only point was, “You’re all a bunch of pussies, except Clint.”

Also: “Nobody’s more tragically wise than Morgan Freeman”, but we all pretty much know that.
