I don’t have a lot to say about this. Robert Eggers took a movie made a century earlier, and used a modern fantasy-inflected style — there are shots that could have come from LOTR or Harry Potter — to retell it with some additional narrative coherence that it neither needs nor benefits from.

I’ve found all of Eggers’ films at least interesting, but this one wasn’t. It’s just a mid, bland, forgettable, purposeless remake of a movie that’s better in the original. It’s not bad, it’s just… there.
