So, armed with warnings that it wasn’t very good, it was… about as good as I expected. Which means that I mostly liked it a decent amount, didn’t really love it at all, found one or two scenes to be really stupid, but in the end thought it tied up surprisingly well. About as good as the X-Men movies, I guess?

Also, though, I was really irritated that they changed how he got his black costume. Dagnabbit, the movie should have had him and dozens of other heroes kidnapped to an alien world by an omnipotent being who forces them to fight bad guys, and after having his costume get shredded in a battle, Spider-Man should have found a “vending machine” in the good guys’ compound that dispensed his new suit, only later it turns out that it was a prison all along and the suit is an evil alien that is controlling him and making him do stuff in his sleep while feeding off his life energy, and then Reed Richards blasts it off him and stores it in a jar until it escapes and etc.

Okay, not really. But the two things that would have been cool are:

  1. Make the suit actually look cool, not just like a dyed version of the regular suit. Seriously, it should be DIFFERENT.

  2. Make it have the special powers it had in the comics, like the ability to flow onto him, and move away from his face (like it did on Venom) and stuff. He should never have to TAKE HIS MASK OFF in the black costume.

But alas, it was just a black version of his regular boring suit. Lame.

(Also, movie, seriously, this is how you’re using Gwen Stacy? Why bother!)
