Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

So what’s amazing is that you’ve got this second-tier movie that’s clearly not a big Spider-Man/POTC kind of thing, but has impeccable special effects. I mean, this is a DIFFICULT movie to make special effects for, with lots of things that could look really ridiculous really easily. But none of them do! They’re all perfectly fine!

But despite the advances in visual technology, writers remain stuck in the past, and still write cheesy dialogue and two-dimensional characters.

THAT SAID, this really was a movie that’s very faithful to the source material. The FF do have cheesy dialogue, and they do have semi-nonsensical cosmic plots (of which this was one). If you like the Lee/Kirby era comics, it’d be hard to dislike this movie.
3a. But I still think Galactus should have been a big purple guy. Yes, that would have been more preposterous and wouldn’t have really fit the plot, but I want to see Big Purple Galactus!
- Overall, enjoyable comic book fluff. Unlike Spider-Man or SuperJesus Returns, this isn’t trying to be all literary and thematic and Campbellian and shit, it’s just telling a comic book story in movie form. Which is cool.
