So, another Frank Miller comic turned into a stylized movie, with relative success. I have to say, though, that Sin City was a lot better. Part of the problem here is the plot (300 guys; they fight; they die), part of the problem is the frankly problematic treatment of race, and part of it is the silly “Freedom! Liberty! Justice! The American Way!” battlecries, but really the main part is the plot. There’s just not enough story here to justify this much movie, no matter how many slo-mo beheadings and stylized half-naked women they put into the thing.

Decent enough spectacle, but not a patch on Sin City.
